Why are you a nonprofit?

Pushing Boundaries was founded in 2005 for two reasons:  The first is that people should have access to professional, intensive and AFFORDABLE therapy center that promotes recovery of function without time limits.  From the staff to the Board of Directors, the interns to the volunteers, every person involved with Pushing Boundaries is committed to giving our clients the freedom to improve their situation to the best of their ability with access to state of the art rehabilitative equipment.

After a catastrophic illness or injury, many families find themselves isolated; without support or the ability to have access to better their situation.   We’re here to bridge that gap and to connect those needing support with organizations that can help, as well as providing limitless recovery therapy not provided in the current healthcare model.

The second reason is, frankly, as debilitating as the illness or injury is – the financial devastation that comes with it is just as enormous.  According to the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center, the average health care and living expenses during the first year following a spinal cord injury range from $347,000 to over $1 million, depending on the severity of the injury.1

To that end, the research and support we provide to the paralysis community is free of charge and available to anyone needing assistance.   The fee for therapy covers about 60-70% of the actual cost to provide therapy, and is often the lowest cost for a service our clients have.  Even so, many clients have to pay for their therapy out of pocket.  We work tirelessly to assist our clients by researching private funding options available.   The only way we can continue to provide such excellence is with the help of the community.
